I didn't realize how long it has been since I checked xanga. Good to hear some updates!

My mind and life has been in a whirlwind for about the past month. The whirlwind has blown me into 2008 and already January is almost halfway through. I anticipate 2008 with newness and pray for renewal and revival in my life!

For Christmas I had the best present ever...I was able to return to Ethiopia after 2 1/2 years to visit my parents. Alot has happened since I left...a few Ethiopian friends got married, another moved to Kenya for university, another is in nursing school...

I didn't realize how much I missed it...the people and land are in my heart. sigh.

Mom and me enjoying lunch together...Ethiopian style! YUM!

Elder Moon and my dad...best buddies!

The Korean Hospital where my parents work.  Full of Korean culture. Full of Ethiopian culture. If any medical person is interested in working/volunteering in a hospital in Africa, this is the one! Let me know, I have brochures! :) You can get Korean meals there everyday!

A great billboard....2 people from the bush discovering computers. :)

Bilingual Program Teacher/Director
This will be my 2nd year teaching in Rantoul as a Bilingual/ESL teacher. Last year I was the only Spanish speaking adult in the building and even though my Spanish is completely terrible, the entire school staff saw me as the "miracle drug" to all their Spanish speaking kid problems.  At the beginning of the year there were no parents that would come into the school or call the school, but the end of the year they were involved in the classrooms and would often spontaneously drop in. This year, seeing the program grow, we have 5 staff members that speak Spanish and will be building this bilingual program together! I'm so excited and thankful for each one that is willing to jump on board.  It's kinda funny to me, though, that we are all these young Caucasians. Where are my latino brother and sister teachers?!

At registration a couple weeks ago I met for the first time the father of one of my precious first grade students. When he found out who I was he got this big smile on his face and told me how this past summer his son read something in Spanish on the cereal box and he could not believe his son could read it. He asked his son where he learned to read in Spanish and he told his dad a teacher at school taught him.  What motivation to start a new year and a foundation to build on! I'm going to need these motivations as the teacher who has been leading this whole program has recently resigned, so I now have taken on the role of program director as well as teacher. I need a lot of wisdom and prayer as someone very ill-equipped for the job.

From ABEL to ISR
Something I never thought would ever happen was that I would be leaving the ABEL area. ABEL has been my family and place to be for all my CFC years (5 1/2 years).  I'm so thankful for all the people, blessings, lessons, and struggles.  I'm thankful for P.Jung and his patience with me all these years, for pushing me to be stretched in my faith when I pushed back all the harder.  It is not easy at all for me to move to the other side of Krannert, you would think I was moving to the other side of the country. This love-me heart does not take this kind of change very quickly. Perhaps this is a new chapter of my life, a fresh start. I pray that God will help me see His heart for the ISR area and be moldable to be a faithful worker there. ISR, I feel very welcomed by you! Thank you!

CONGRATULATIONS LAURA AND JEREMY! MAY GOD BLESS YOUR MARRIAGE WITH MANY WONDERFUL YEARS TOGETHER!

Our friendship began as new short-term missionaries with SIM to Ethiopia, along with several other beautiful girls.

Our adventures in Ethiopia never ended, including the flight over the Ethiopian countryside!

We were travel buddies to Djibouti....

Kenya...

Lebenon...

and Egypt.

And then she found her prince charming and had a beautiful wedding in the Smokies last weekend!

I got to meet a few of her other great friends.

So thankful for a faithful friend like Laura!
